Lycoming
County Information Many opportunities exist for hunting, fishing, hiking and boating in the vast acreage of state forest lands along with state Game Commission lands for family use. The north branch of the Susquehanna River flows through the county, coming in at Jersey Shore and exiting below Muncy. Major highways include: Interstate 180, US Route 15 and 220. Other important routes are 44, 87, 118 and 287. The City Bus system provides transportation throughout the greater Williamsport valley. A through county railroad serves business and industry as does a local rail system. Farming is the major industry in the county with 1,105 farms. Dairy farms predominate with 135, but grain, hay, and livestock are also high commodities. Development rights of twenty-six farms totaling 3,200 acres have been purchased for farmland preservation. Sixteen townships currently have agricultural security areas. The Pennsylvania College of Technology, affiliated with The Pennsylvania State University, is Pennsylvanias premier technical college, offering bachelor of science degrees along with associate degrees. Lycoming College, founded in 1812, offers degrees in 32 different areas of study to 1,500 students. Lycoming Countys claim to fame is that it is the home of Little League Baseball and the Little League World Series. Lycoming County also hosts a Class A professional baseball team. Williamsport is home to many opportunities for the cultural arts and recreational sports fans through the Community Arts Center to the Hiawatha Riverboat. Need some stats for your county?
